Harbour Pool Shut Down Shortened
Pool will close January 1 – 21 for maintenance
Initial plans for a lengthy shut down at Harbour Pool to complete construction of a Universal Change Room have been put on the shelf. The information in the current Leisure Guide states the pool will be closed until March 4th. This is no longer the case. Registration for winter swimming lessons will start December 18 at 8:00 a.m.
“Harbour Pool will be shut for maintenance and improvements, but only for three weeks in January. At the time of printing the Leisure Guide, which happens quite in advance, we were looking at starting construction on the Universal Change Room project,” stated Pool Manager, Lindsay Poitras. “The costs for the construction were well over budget so we’ve had to reassess,” Poitras continued.
From January 1 -21, the pool will be closed for:
- Facility cleaning
- Lifecycle maintenance and replacement projects
- Preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment
The construction of the Universal Change Room will be delayed at this time. The City will continue with the design process in order to find a solution that will meet the needs of the users, while limiting the shutdown time frame and staying within the approved budget.
Swimming lessons will be offered following the shut down and registration opens on December 18 at 8:00 a.m. Swimming will resume on January 22.
