Fort Saskatchewan continues to see strong growth
FORT SASKATCHEWAN, ALBERTA, (June 10, 2014) – The 2014 Municipal Census is complete and the total population for Fort Saskatchewan is 22,808. This is an increase of 4.65% over the 2013 Municipal Census. The biggest jump in this year’s count was the number of dwellings under construction or vacant at 1334 for 2014 compared to 640 in 2013. Recent housing starts are the highest in the capital region after Edmonton.
“This population figure shows a healthy, steady growth is continuing in Fort Saskatchewan,” commented Mayor Gale Katchur. “We also know it will continue for some time given the number of construction starts compared to last year,” Katchur continued.
In all, 9948 households completed the census and 46 percent of those households completed the census on-line compared to 43 percent in 2013.
A final report with more detailed information such as age breakdown, number of households and size of households will be available by the end of July. The City uses this information when applying for government funding and for planning purposes.
