Advance Voting

Advance voting will be held on the following dates and locations:

October 4, 2017
Dow Centennial Centre - Scotia Bank Studio
8700 - 84 Street
Noon - 9:00 pm

October 7, 2017
Dow Centennial Centre - Scotia Bank Studio
8700 - 84 Street
10:00 am - 5:00 pm  

Advance Voting allows people who are going to be out of town, who are working on election day or who require assistance the opportunity to vote.


Election Day

Election Day is Monday, October 16, 2017.  Voting Stations open at 10:00 am and close at 8:00 pm. 

When the voting station is declared closed at 8:00 pm, any Elector in the voting station is permitted to vote, but no other person is allowed to enter the voting station.

Voting Station Locations

The City has three voting stations.  Each voting station serves a specific area of the City and you must vote at your designated voting station. To find your designated voting station, see Where do I go to vote?

Elector Eligibility

To be eligible to vote in the municipal election you must be:

  1. 18 years of age or older;
  2. a Canadian citizen;
  3. a resident of Alberta for six (6) consecutive months before Election Day (April 16, 2017)
  4. a resident of the City of Fort Saskatchewan on Election Day.

Elector identification will be required for the municipal election. The identification requirement sets a uniform standard of one piece of picture identification or one piece of identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer under the Election Act.

Special Ballots

The City will be providing Special Ballots, which gives Electors who are physically incapable or absent from the jurisdiction (City of Fort Saskatchewan), the option to mail in their ballot. Special ballots provide another avenue for Electors to exercise their right in the democratic process.

You may cast your vote using a Special Ballot if you are an eligible voter and unable to make it to an Advance Vote or Election Day voting station because you are:

  1. physically incapacitated;
  2. absence from the local jurisdiction; or
  3. Returning Officer, Deputy Returning Officer, Constable, Candidate, Official Agent or Scrutineer who may be located on Election Day at a voting station other than the one designated for your place of residence.

To vote using a Special Ballot a request can be made by any one of the following methods.

  1. in writing to Legislative Services, City of Fort Saskatchewan, 10005 102 Street  T8L 2C5;
  2. by telephone at 780-992-6236;
  3. by fax machine at 780-998-4774;
  4. in person at City Hall 3rd Floor 10005 102 Street  T8L 2C5; or
  5. by e-mail at

Completed Special Ballots must be received by the Legislative Services Office (10005 102 St) by 4:30 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted.  Special Ballots will not be accepted at Advance Vote or Election Day Voting Stations.

 A Candidate may request a list of the names and addresses of those Electors who have applied and been provided with special ballots.
