We are the contact for public, builders, developers and investors related to permitting, business licensing, economic development and transit route planning & ridership monitoring. The following sections fall under the Planning and Strategic Initiatives Department:
Planning and Strategic Initiatives is responsible for:
- Land use planning (Municipal Development Plan, area structure plans, Land Use Bylaw)
- Development approvals and control (development agreements, development permits, encroachment agreements, compliance letters)
- Safety codes services (building, plumbing, gas and electrical permits)

Economic Development is responsible for:
- Developing and implementing business retention, attraction and residential growth strategies
- Local business community liaison
- Business Licensing
- Coordinating activities of the Economic Development Board
- Coordinating all matters relating to economic development activities
