Alberta's Industrial Heartland region is located within greater Edmonton, Alberta's Capital Region.   This area includes portions of five municipalities: The City of Fort Saskatchewan, the Counties of  Strathcona, Sturgeon and Lamont and the City of Edmonton.

Designated for long-term heavy and medium industrial growth, and already home to over 30 world-class companies, the Heartland has the infrastructure and the support of its communities, to provide companies with a productive environment in which they can grow and succeed.

 

Mission Statement 2010 - 2040
Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association is a cooperative effort of its partner municipalities dedicated to the long term sustainable development of the Heartland. This is achieved by coordinating, advocating and promoting activities with government, industry, residents and other stakeholders

 

Vision 2040
The Vision 2040 explains the conditions for success for the development of the Heartland including:

- The region is recognized as a World Scale center for hydrocarbon and energy processing that attracts new business opportunities
- Economic opportunities, high quality jobs and tax revenues for the communities are created through the on-going business investments
- Environmental impacts are minimized through the application of eco-industrial principles and use of best available technologies.
- Diversified portfolio of investments exists that are not subject to single commodity or business cycle impacts
- Residents well informed and support development in the area.
- Growth is coordinated to take advantage of synergies opportunities through effective planning
- Partnerships with regional provincial and federal levels of government are an essential part of the success in the region.

Organizations that are key partners:
 
Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Land Trust Society - This not-for-profit organization was established in 2005 for the primary purpose of acquiring property from residential land owners that are located in close proximity to heavy industry in the AIH policy area.
 
Fort Air Partnership - The Fort Air Partnership is a voluntary partnership formed to help produce relevant, credible information that can be used to manage regional air quality, protect environmental health, and influence public policy.
 
Life in the Heartland - an initiative aimed at improving access to information, contacts, and resources of interest to residents in Alberta's Industrial Heartland. The intiative is a partnership of five regional organizations dedicated to a new approach to communication.  
 
Northeast Capital Industrial Association - NCIA is a not-for-profit cooperative representing industry located in Alberta's Industrial Heartland. NCIA member companies range from large integrated global chemical and petro-chemical industries, to industrial service companies.
 
Northeast Region Community Awareness and Emergency Response - NR CAER is a partnership of more than 40 community-minded industries, municipalities, chemical transporters and government agencies dedicated to emergency response and education initiatives in Alberta's Industrial Heartland.
