Population hits a milestone
We’ve grown 9.77% since last municipal census in 2010
FORT SASKATCHEWAN, ALBERTA, (June 19, 2012) – The results of the 2012 City of Fort Saskatchewan municipal census conducted in May are in. Mayor Gale Katchur announced today that the current population of Fort Saskatchewan is 20,475. The last municipal census conducted in May 2010 came in at 18,653 residents and the federal census conducted in 2011 had our population at 19, 051. In total, 39.55 percent of residents completed the 2012 census online.
“I am pleased we’ve broken the milestone of more than 20,000 residents in our city. I think more people are realizing just what we knew all along; that Fort Saskatchewan has a warmth and friendliness along with a thriving, vibrant unique character that makes this city a great place to live,” exclaimed Mayor Gale Katchur. “I know that our planning department has been very busy this year with building permits as well so the future looks very bright for Fort Saskatchewan,” Katchur continued.
The final report will include information such as age breakdown, number of households and size of households and will be available by September on the City’s website. The City uses this information when applying for government funding and for planning purposes.
