Residential Development Permit (Minor) - This permit is for anything to do with residential development. Specifically for the following types of developments:
- Single Family Dwelling
- Duplex Dwelling
- Multi-Attached Dwelling (up to 4 units)
- Residential Addition (Dwelling, Garage)
- Garage (attached or detached)
- Carport
- Shed (over 10 m2, or 108 ft2)
- Raised Deck (over 0.6 m, or 2 ft in height)
Home Office/Business Permit - This application form is used for business activities being conducted within a residence. Business functions subject to permitting include:
i ) Home Business - means the accessory use of a principal dwelling, or a combination of a principal dwelling and an accessory building, in a residential neighbourhood to conduct one or more businesses. Such businesses may generate more than one business associated visit per day. Home Business shall not involve more than one non-resident person to be employed in the dwelling; is not detectable from outside the dwelling; and does not use any outside yard for any type of business activity.
ii) Home Office - means the accessory use of a principal dwelling, in a residential neighbourhood to conduct a small scale business or Professional Services - Office and is limited to a desk, telephone, computer and other related office equipment. A home office does not require business associated visits; does not require non-resident persons employed within the dwelling; is not detectable from outside the dwelling; does not extend the business activity to the garage or outside yard; and does not require parking of commercial vehicles
Commercial/Industrial/Multifamily/Institutional Development Permit -
This permit is for major commercial, industrial, mutifamily and institutional types of developments.
Sign Permit - This permit is for the following types of signs:
- Permanent Sign
- Temporary Sign (banners, etc.)
- Portable Sign
- Freestanding/Pylon Sign
- Wall/Fascia Sign
- Billboard/Off-Site Sign
- Projecting/Canopy Sign
- Roof Sign
- Illuminated Sign
- Non-Illuminated Sign
Please note: Permits are not required to hold a garage sale. However, no staked signs are permitted on 98 Avenue between 101 and 108 Streets, or 99 Avenue between 90 and 108 Streets, because of the underground irrigation system. Signs are permitted elsewhere 24 hours before the sale starts and must be removed within 24 hours after the sale ends. All garage sale signs will be removed by the city if they have not been picked up by the owner 24 hours after the sale is up, and there is a fee if you require the signs back.
