What items can be recycled?


A wide variety of items can be recycled. In fact the list of items that can be recycled is much longer than the list of items that can’t be recycled.

Paper: newspapers and inserts, magazines, catalogues, writing paper, greeting cards, junk mail, paper bags, envelopes, paper-back and hard-cover books (remove hard covers), phone books, paper egg cartons.

Cardboard: Flattened cardboard boxes, cereal boxes (remove inside liner) milk cartons (rinse with cold water, and flatten) shoe boxes, brown paper bags. large pieces of cardboard must be flattened, broken down, bundled and tied. All styrofoam and garbage must be removed from the inside.

Metals: Tin cans (soup, juice, etc.) with the lids removed or pushed inside the can. Must be rinsed and clean—the label doesn’t have to be removed. Aluminum containers (pie plates, pop and beer cans, etc.)

Glass: Jars (pickle, jam, etc.) and glass (bottles) must be empty and clean. Discard lids. Labels don’t have to be removed.

Plastics:  Plastics identified with the ‘Chasing Arrow’ symbol or Plastic Identification Code numbered one (1) through seven (7) are recyclable. This includes items such as plastic bags, rinsed and flattened milk jugs, yogurt containers, household cleaner bottles or other clear and colored plastics. Any other plastic product that is not numbered or identified with this symbol is not accepted.  Pop bottles, milk jugs, household cleaner bottles, yogurt containers. All plastics must be empty, rinsed and squished.
