Gather your friends and family and dress is your snazziest red and white clothes. Get ready to celebrate the City of Fort Saskatchewan's main event, Canada Day - Fort Saskatchewan style!

Every July 1st, residents and visitors honour Canada's Birthday in an all-encompassing, old-fashioned community celebration.


Free Transit

There will be free transit service on Canada Day, brought to you by ME Global. For transit times and bus routes, click here.

Commuter bus service to Edmonton will not be running on July 1. Regular service resumes on Monday, July 4.


Facility Closures

Civic Offices, Dow Centennial Centre, Harbour Pool, and the Public Library will all be closed on Canada Day. 

The 1875 NWMP Fort will be open free on Canada Day from 1 - 6 pm.


Waste & Recycling Collection

Waste and recycling collection has been moved to Monday, July 4 for homes on the Pilot Program.

Pilot Program (Cart Collection):

  • Due to additional parking conflicts in the downtown (Friday) garbage zone, cart collection will be done on Monday, July 4; No cart collection on July 1.
  • This schedule change also affects Clover Park.
  • Cart collection will return to Friday on July 8.

Regular Service:

  • The date for regular service will not change

Pancake Breakfast by DOW Canada: 8 - 10 am

Plan to start your day at the Royal Canadian Legion with a pancake breakfast, sponsored by Dow Chemical Canada Inc. and served by the Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department.

Car Show by Heartland Ford: 9 am - 3 pm

For more entertainment, be sure to stroll alongside the polished cars at the ever-growing Show & Shine organized by Heartland Ford. This fantastic car event, hosted outside City Hall, will be even bigger this year with more classic nostalgia, more muscle, and more wheels.

Canada Day Parade by PME: Starts at 11 am

Entertainment & Activities: 1 - 5 pm, 7 - 10 pm

Follow the crowd to Legacy Park for the Opening Ceremonies. Make sure to get a cupcake and ice cream courtesy of Agrium. The July 1st extravaganza includes a petting zoo sponsored by Sherritt International, children's inflatables sponsored by the Plains Midstream, and face painting. There is also a ton of entertainment on the Legacy Park Band Shell, brought to you by Shell. It is the perfect time for showcasing out unbridled community and patriotic spirit!

Farmer's Market by Chamber of Commerce: 11 am - 4 pm

Located at the CN Parking Lot (99 Avenue and 101 Street).

Sheep Grazing: 12 - 6 pm

Sheep grazing will be from 12 - 6 pm. Regular hours return on Saturday, July 2.

Fort Heritage Precinct: 1 - 6 pm

The 1875 NWMP Fort - located at 10006 - 100 Avenue - will be open free on Canada Day.

Canada Day Fire Works by City of Fort Saskatchewan: 10:45 - 11 pm

Canada Day continues into the night with the happy sounds of fireworks as they light up the evening with a rainbow of colours fluttering against the sky. Watch for the fireworks at the top of the Rotary Amphitheatre in the North Saskatchewan River Valley.
