City of Fort Saskatchewan Bylaw No. 1973 established the Emergency Preparedness in compliance with the Province of Alberta Disaster Services Act . The Organization is a central group of people which plans, organizes and manages the prompt and coordinated response to major emergencies affecting our community.

In order to carry out its emergency tasks, the Agency has been divided into four functional areas and is headed by a Director of Emergency Preparedness.

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is a proud member of NRCAER (Northeast Region Community Awareness Emergency Response), a partnership of more than 40 community-minded industries and municipalities dedicated to emergency response and education initiatives in the region.

A key initiative for the organization is the Community Notification Program, which includes a 24 hour information line residents can call to hear current information from NRCAER members, including industry activity they may see, hear or otherwise notice.
