The City of Fort Saskatchewan’s Community Peace Officers are duly authorized by the City to enforce the provisions of the Animal Control Bylaw. Officers therefore respond to various animal related incidents such as an animal at large, dangerous animal situations, licensing follow-ups, or any other concerns you may have relating to the Animal Control Bylaw.
Lost cats and dogs in the care of Municipal Enforcement are kept in Fort Saskatchewan for a minimum of 48 hours to provide an opportunity for pet owners and pets to be reunited. Municipal Enforcement will use any visible identification or microchip to try and locate the rightful owner of the pet. If there is no identification to use, posts of photos and descriptions of the pets are made on Facebook at Fort Sask Animal Control. This practice, with the help of the community's engagement, has successfully reunited many pets with owners.
What happens after 48 hours if a pet is unclaimed? Municipal Enforcement transfers the care of the animal to the Edmonton Humane Society, and updates the Facebook page to ask owners to contact the Society.
