2017 Municipal Election Results


FORT SASKATCHEWAN, ALBERTA, (October 16, 2017) – The unofficial results for the 2017 Fort Saskatchewan municipal election are as follows:

Gale Katchur received 54.4% of the mayoral vote to remain as Fort Saskatchewan's Mayor for a third consecutive term.

The following Council candidates received the most votes to fill the six Councillor positions:

Brian Kelly, Ed Sperling (Incumbent), Deanna Lennox, Jibs Abitoye, Lisa Makin, and Gordon Harris.

Municipal Election Results

Elk Island Public School Trustees Harvey Stadnick and Heather Wall were both acclaimed as was Elk Island Catholic School Trustee Justine Marie Wright.

 Aquatic Vote Question Result

“Council is seeking voter input on the following project: Aquatic Services

A new aquatic facility is proposed to be constructed at the Dow Centennial Centre. In 2017 dollars, the estimated project costs are: construction cost of $35 million; annual operating cost of $4.1 million, which represents $2.6 million in operating and $1.5 million in debenture payments annually over a period of 20 years. Based on an average home valued at $400,000, this single project represents a residential tax increase of approximately $112 a year.

48.03% were in favour and 51.97% were opposed to a new aquatic facility at the Dow Centennial Centre.

Voter turnout was 37.61 percent of eligible voters (7381 ballots were cast) compared to 33.45 percent in 2013.

The results of the election become official as of 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, October 20.
