Fire department responds to river valley fire
The Fort Saskatchewan fire department responded to an outdoor fire in the river valley at 12:15 p.m. today. The ground fire was in a treed area just off the trail at the eastern edge of Turner Park. Fire crews had the fire under control by 1:30 p.m. using the brush fire truck.
The serious wildfire that blazed throughout the weekend in Strathcona County north of Bruderheim is evidence that in these conditions, any outdoor fire is a real cause for concern.
“We need everyone to comply with the Fire Advisory that is in place and today was just an unfortunate demonstration of why we have the ban in place,” stated Deputy Fire Chief Paul Prevost.
The fire advisory only allows for recreational fires in:
- covered recreational fire pits, pots, bowls, or chimeneas
- approved fire pits within recognized campgrounds and parks
- propane and natural gas appliances
No other fires are permitted until further notice.
