The City of Fort Saskatchewan would like to remind children and their parents of a few tips for a safe evening of Trick-or-Treating.

• Carry a flashlight so you can see where you are going and be seen

• Stay on one side of the street until you can cross safely at a crosswalk and walk facing traffic
• Don’t cut across yards or driveways

M.E. and YOU: No Parking Areas

Children are particularly vulnerable road users, because they may no be tall enough to see around a vehicle. Which is why it’s so important to park five meters or more from crosswalks and intersections, so clear sight-lines are available for pedestrians and motorists.

M.E. and YOU: Safely Crossing the Street

If you need to cross a street, the best place to cross is at a marked crosswalk. Marked crosswalks are placed in areas with better visibility and have signs to indicate to drivers that pedestrians cross the road at this location. If a marked crosswalk isn’t available, cross at a street corner – it’s safer than crossing in the middle of a block.

Accessible parking stalls are a necessity for residents with mobility and disability issues, and not being able to use them can dramatically impact their lives. Remember, a valid placard is required to use accessible parking stalls. Please consider the impact of parking in an accessible stall and leave these spaces available for those who depend on them.
