Fire Department responds to residential fire in Westpark this morning

This morning on May 5, 2023, at approximately 1:00 am, Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department responded to a residential structural fire on Acadian Wynd in the Westpark neighbourhood. On arrival, two homes were engulfed in flames which spread to one additional home. Fire crews made an aggressive attack to extinguish the fire but all three homes were lost. A fourth home was saved but experienced damage.

Fire Ban in Effect for Fort Saskatchewan

Effective at 12:00pm on May 2, 2023, a fire ban has been issued for the City of Fort Saskatchewan. No outdoor fires are permitted until further notice. The ban applies to all City areas including:

  • All city parks (Turner Park, West Rivers Edge, and Legacy Park)
  • Residential recreational fire pits
  • Open fires (brush, bonfire)
  • Fireworks
  • Chimneys
  • Solid fuel barbecues (charcoal, pellets etc.)

Alberta Airsheds Council Releases 2022 Annual Air Quality Report

The Alberta Airsheds Council (AAC) released its 2022 Annual Air Quality Report today. The ACC is made up of Alberta’s ten Airsheds. Fort Air Partnership is on of those ten Airsheds. Alberta’s Airsheds use 88 continuous monitoring stations plus various technologies at hundreds of other locations to monitor the air Albertans breathe. (Airsheds are regional air quality organizations, responsible for independent ambient air monitoring and stakeholder engagement, public awareness, and education.)
