The City Boasts of Two New Mural Completed This Summer

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is proud to announce two new works of public art  are now transforming the streetscape in Downtown Fort Saskatchewan. Both murals were commissioned by the City as a part of the Downtown Mural Program. Please come visit and see them for yourself!

Tourism Hosting Grants Awarded

Two upcoming events have been awarded grant funding from the City’s Tourism Hosting Grant program.

Fort Saskatchewan Minor Baseball has been awarded $2000 and will be hosting the 2023 Baseball Alberta Provincial Championship for U11 AA. This will be held at Turner Park baseball diamond on July 28 – 30 and welcomes all baseball fans to come and cheer on the players. This Provincial tournament will have representation of teams from all over Alberta.

Wildfire smoke and summertime smog lead to higher Air Quality Health Index (AHQI) ratings

From April through June 2023, Fort Air Partnership (FAP) recorded 12,716 hours of air monitoring data for use in calculating the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) at seven stations in our Airshed.

Hours monitored: 14,783 hours
Low-risk AQHI: 11,520 hours
Moderate-risk AQHI: 2,485 hours
High-risk AQHI: 453 hours
Very-high risk AQHI: 325 hours

  • 11,520 (or 78%) of the hours were low-risk AQHI. 
  • 2,485 (or 16.7%) of the hours were moderate-risk AQHI.
  • 778 (or 5.3%) of the hours were high or very high-risk AQHI.

City Hires Six New Firefighters

Fort Saskatchewan City Council greenlit the hiring of six new full-time firefighters during their regular council meeting on Tuesday, June 13; a significant move towards bolstering the local fire department. Fire Chief Todd Martens emphasized the importance of this decision, as it will enable the deployment of a second fire truck.
