2021 Annual Air Quality Monitoring Results Affected by Wildfire Smoke

Fort Air Partnership (FAP), the organization that monitors the air local residents breathe, released 2021 third quarter Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) results today. The Government of Alberta calculates the AQHI using data collected at seven of FAP’s air monitoring stations.

The spread of the Omicron variant is escalating in our community and it will take everyone’s commitment to following Alberta Health Services Guidelines to keep from overwhelming our front line services.

As of January 14, Fort Saskatchewan has 435 active cases of COVID-19 which is substantially higher than our peak of 175 cases in early October. The City reminds residents that several public health measure are in place and that all public spaces are required to follow the rules.

The program is delivered through a partnership between the City of Fort Saskatchewan, University of Alberta, Business Link and Digital Main Street. City Council approved the 2022 Operating and Capital budgets at the Tuesday December 14, 2021 Council meeting. During the November budget deliberations meetings, Council heard presentations from all City departments as well as the Fort Saskatchewan Public Library and the Heartland Housing Foundation. Council also passed the 2022 User Fees and Charges at the December 14th meeting.
