“The City of Fort Saskatchewan acknowledges the tragic discovery of the 751 Indigenous children found in unmarked graves at Marieval Indian Residential School on Cowessess First Nation and the 182 unmarked graves found at the site of Kooteney Residential School in Cranbrook," said Gale Katchur, Mayor of Fort Saskatchewan, "We are mourning these losses and the 215 children found at the Kamloops Residential School on Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation."

As Fort Saskatchewan moves forward with hosting Canada Day events, we would like to bring awareness to the complex nature of our festivities this year. While many people are looking forward to celebrating our nation, we must also acknowledge that many are in a period of mourning for their relatives and ancestors: the Indigenous children who have been found buried across our country at Residential Schools.

Water Demand Measure B Implemented

Today the Regional Water Customers Group announced a Water Demand Management Condition B to go into effect immediately. This is a request of Municipalities to lead by example and stop all internal non-essential potable water use.

On June 23, 2021 Fort Saskatchewan Municipal Enforcement worked with regional law enforcement partners to conduct Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance North American Standard Inspections along Highway 15 and Range Road 220. Alberta Sheriffs, Edmonton Police Service, City of Edmonton Community Standards, Strathcona County, Alberta Carrier Services were all in attendance as part of this joint commercial vehicle safety operation.
