M.E. and YOU: Weekly Municipal Enforcement Messages

Posted On Wednesday October 02, 2019

Do you know the rules around school buses? In the City of Fort Saskatchewan, school buses do not activate flashing red lights or extend a stop sign when children are getting on or off of the bus. This means drivers can pass the bus using caution when doing so.

In the rural area outside of Fort Saskatchewan, drivers must always stop for a school bus when its flashing red lights are activated and the stop sign's extended. Vehicles must remain stopped until the red flashing lights are turned off and the stop sign is no longer extended. Failing to stop could result in a $465 fine.

Remember, we all have a role to play in keeping our children safe.

Fort Saskatchewan is a Vision Zero community and asks, “What are you doing to make our roads safer?” For more information on Vision Zero please visit fortsask.ca/visionzero
