Goats are being deployed for weed control at West River’s Edge

Goats are being used as a safe environmentally friendly alternative to weed management. They’ll be starting on June 27 at West River’s Edge to remove noxious weeds in the affected areas.

“The goats will cover up to 96 hectares and will treat the effected areas up to three times over the summer and fall,” said Jenelle Hart, Manager of Parks Services. “Unlike the sheep, the goats are not available to the public and are not to be approached at any time.”

Please be advised:

 •  These are working animals, at no time is the public permitted to interact or pet the goats

 •  Signs will be posted informing the public of the work area for the day

 •  Two Sheppard’s will be monitoring and herding the goats to effected areas

We urge Fort Saskatchewan residents, and visitors, to please respect the posted work signs and give the goats and Sheppards room to work.
