M.E. and YOU: Weekly Municipal Enforcement Messages

Posted On Tuesday August 13, 2019

Did you know you’re four times more likely to be involved in a collision while using your cell phone, and eight times more likely to crash while texting.

When you’re on the road your primary focus should be on your driving. Activities like using a hand held device (even at a red light), reading, eating a meal, personal grooming or having your pet on your lap reduce your driving performance and reduce your awareness.

Whether you’re involved in a collision or not, you could receive a fine of $287 and lose three demerit points on your license for distracted driving. Remember, you share the road with other drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians.

The simple act of turning-off your cell phone and putting it away keeps you focused on your driving and makes every trip safe for you, and others.

Fort Saskatchewan is a Vision Zero community and asks, “What are you doing to make our roads safer?” For more information on Vision Zero please visit www.fortsask.ca/visionzero
