Fort Saskatchewan Skateboard Society will be hosting the Grand Opening, there will be: scooter, BMX, inline skating, skateboarding demos from various groups as well as a BBQ put on by the ELKS.

Transit News

Getting to School in September

Going to school in Fort Sask?

Did you know that students attending school in Fort Saskatchewan pay only $20.40 a month or $1.50 a trip to take the bus?

Going to school in Edmonton?

The U-Pass gets you free transit on all Fort Sask transit routes including route 580 to Clareview LRT. Students attending the following schools will be provided a U-Pass: MacEwan, NAIT, NorQuest College and University of Alberta. Passes are valid at all times throughout the school year.

Connect Parent Group

An attachment-based program supporting parents & caregivers

Do you ever feel that your pre-teen doesn’t listen to you? Do you sometimes even feel pushed away? Do parents matter?

Actually, there is very good evidence that strong relationships with parents protect youth from risk during adolescence and help them thrive!

We call that ATTACHMENT!

Connect is a FREE 9-week program to support parents of pre- teens (ages 10-14). Parents meet in groups of 10-16 with two trained group leaders.

Wednesdays starting October 2 until December 4, 2019 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm (No group on November 13) Lang Room at City Hall, 10005 102 St, Fort Saskatchewan.

Limited spaces available. Light supper will be provided.

About the Connect Parent Group

Co-developed over the last 10 years by the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre and Simon Fraser University, the program focuses on the core components of secure attachment to promote children’s social, emotional, and behavioural adjustment. Connect helps caregivers understand basic attachment concepts which can then be applied across a broad range of situations and relational concepts.

Each session provides parents with an attachment perspective on parent-child relationships and adolescent development. Parents watch role-plays, do exercises and discuss ways of responding to challenging behaviour and problems. After each session, parents receive handouts with key points to remember when applying the principles to their own parent-child relationships.

Anxiety has many faces, and at this workshop parents, caregivers, and professionals will learn about the psychological and physiological roots of anxiety, why it is on the rise in our children, and what to do to help children better manage it.

The (Re)Connection Revolution

First responders & their back up

First Responders experience some of the most traumatic situations on the “front-line” in their job. There is also a continued “stigma” of talking about mental health and the often-feared PTSD.

This evening will look after all the heroes who do this brave work of helping people at their most vulnerable. Heroes who do frontline work (paid or volunteer) and those who hold them dear.
