M.E. and YOU: Weekly Municipal Enforcement Messages

Please do not blow, or sweep leaves and debris onto city roads. We’ve been noticing excess yard waste being blown or swept onto city roads with the expectation that the City will pick it up. Remember, all compostable materials such as leaves, grass clippings and branches go into your green bin for curbside collection on your scheduled day.

When excess yard waste is left on the road it can:

  • Clog storm sewers and prevent water from draining. This can make roads and sidewalks slippery during the winter, and causes flooding when it rains
  • Be a hazard to motorists or cyclists
  • Harm storm sewers and pollute bodies of water

Excessive debris also makes our neighborhoods look untidy. We would like to remind everyone the Traffic Bylaw prohibits anyone from placing, causing or permiting debris to be placed upon any sidewalk or roadway within the City, and can result in a $100 fine.

Fort Saskatchewan is a Vision Zero community and asks, “What are you doing to make our roads safer?” For more information on Vision Zero please visit fortsask.ca/visionzero
