Phase 1 Changes means new plans for City facilities

Some recreation options will open on February 16

On Saturday, February 6, the Provincial Government announced new measures just days before the Step 1: A Path Forward was to commence on February 8. The City had previously announced that recreation centres would not re-open in Step 1 due to the tight restrictions and the impact would be minimal for users.

Effective Tuesday, February 16 the Dow Centennial Centre ice surface, gymnasium, and indoor field will open for Youth Sports and Family Bookings. The Apple Fitness Centre will be open for one on one training sessions with a certified fitness trainer. The Sportsplex ice surface will also be open for Youth Sports. No spectators will be allowed.

Ice Arena
Restrictions: Youth Sports/Family Bookings Only
Size: Groups of 10 including coaches and volunteers
Weekdays: 3:30 – 10:00 p.m.
Saturday/Sunday - 7:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Soccer Field
Restrictions: Youth Sports/Family Bookings Only
Size: Groups of 10 including coaches and volunteers
Weekdays: 1:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday/Sunday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Gymnasium
Restrictions: Youth Sports/Family Bookings Only
Size: Groups of 10 including coaches and volunteers
Weekdays: 1:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday/Sunday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Fitness Centre
Restrictions: 1-1 Training with a certified trainer. All appointments must be pre-booked. No drop-ins.
Size: 1-1 Training
Weekdays: 1:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday/Sunday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Sportsplex

Ice Arena
Age: Youth Sports Only
Size: Groups of 10 including coaches and volunteers
Weekdays: 3:30 – 10:00 p.m.
Saturday/Sunday: 7:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

“We are thrilled to be able to welcome back user groups to our Recreation Facilities. Getting our children and youth active is key to healthy development and we have truly missed the noise and busyness they bring to our facilities,” stated Diane Yanch, Culture and Recreation Services Director.

Some of the Provincial Safety requirements include:

  •   One-on-one sessions cannot interact with others and there must be a minimum of 3 metres distance between pairs of trainers and clients (aka sessions) in the same facility.

  •   Trainers must be professional, certified and/or paid trainers who are providing active instruction and correction. Passive supervision of a physical activity is not considered training.

  •   Trainers must provide proof of current certifications, valid business license and have signed a Personal Trainer Contract prior to booking a session.

  •   Trainers must remain masked during the session. Clients are not required to wear a mask while doing high intensity exercise.

  •   External Trainer Requirements Information

All ice, field, and gymnasium participation must be booked through City of Fort Saskatchewan Bookings at bookings@fortsask.ca starting Friday, February 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Family bookings are required to fill out the Return to Play form. 1-1 training can be booked starting Tuesday, February 16 at 1:00 p.m. by calling 780-992-6400.
