Fort Saskatchewan Local Canada Day Activities

Posted On Thursday June 10, 2021

It is important to celebrate positive moments as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic together. While the limitations put on gatherings remain, they do not limit our creativity, pride or spirit. It is with this resolve that the City of Fort Saskatchewan is sharing the following Canada Day initiatives:

Canada Day – Drive-Thru Pancake Breakfast presented by Dow

There is no better way to start your Canada Day than with a pancake breakfast. The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department is going to volunteer their time to cook the meals. Volunteers from our fantastic sponsor Dow will assist in placing meals into the vehicles. Please consider donating to the Fire Department’s boot drive during the event for the Muscular Dystrophy Society.
The Jubilee Recreation Centre loop will be utilized for this drive-thru-style format. You can reserve your FREE ticket through our Canada Day website, fortsask.ca/CanadaDay. The Eventbrite link will become live on June 18 at 8:00 am. There will be a limit of 4 meals per vehicle. 1200 cars over a three hour span are expected to be served.

Canada Day Mini-Parade presented by PME

To keep you safe, the City is bringing the Canada Day parade to your front door. Thanks to our sponsor PME, our mini-parade convoy consisting of a fire truck, an RCMP vehicle, a Municipal Enforcement vehicle, the City parade float, a public works vehicle with message board, and a lead camera vehicle will weave its way through the city. The lead vehicle will be live streaming the parade on the City’s Facebook page in order to capture everyone celebrating.

Since the route will be a surprise, citizens will know that the parade is making its way through their neighbourhood by listening for sirens and a megaphone announcement. Thank you to PME for sponsoring the mini-parade.

Decorate Your Home Contest

We invite all residents to show Canadian pride by decorating front windows, lawns, balconies, doors, garage pads and garage doors or whatever you may have at the front of your home. Upload photos of decorated homes to the Fort Saskatchewan Canada Day Facebook event page and tag the City in the post. The top 10 most creatively decorated homes will receive a prize package!

Virtual Canada Day Car Show

No live car show, no problem! We are taking our incredibly popular Fort Saskatchewan Car Show online for the second straight year. Available to any resident living in the Province of Alberta, all you have to do is post a picture of yourself beside your vehicle on the Fort Saskatchewan Canada Day Facebook event page. Ensure that the posting includes the make, model, year and name (if applicable) of your vehicle. A panel of judges will vote for a winner in each of the following categories: Best Truck; Best Motorcycle; Best Import; Most Unique; and Best in Show. Winners will receive a special prize valued at $500.00.

Chalk Art Contest

Show off your Canadian pride by showcasing your best chalk art! Upload your masterpiece to the Fort Saskatchewan Canada Day Facebook page and be entered to win a Canada Day prize package. Ten of the most creative entries will be chosen as winners. Submission can be entered on the Fort Saskatchewan Canada Day Facebook event page until June 29 and winners will be announced on July 1. We also have 100 bags of chalk to give away for FREE along with a Canada Day Regional Activity Booklet. Those interested can fill out a form at fortsask.ca/CanadaDay.

Fireworks

In order to continue to keep our community safe, this year’s fireworks location will not be disclosed. However, our friends at Fireworks Spectacular will be using higher calibre shots that can be seen from further distances. These fireworks should be seen from the comfort of your own homes. We encourage residents to watch from their front or backyards, balconies, or local parks that have an unobstructed view.

Additional Activities

Take a peek at the Canada Day Regional Activity booklet that can be found online at fortsask.ca/CanadaDay. The booklet features a number of themed Canada Day activities that can be done individually or as a family. The booklet can be downloaded or physical copies can be picked up from City Hall.

The Chamber of Commerce is going to run their Farmers’ Market from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm from the CN Station Parking Lot. Help continue the much needed support for our local vendors and businesses.

The Downtown Business Council is going to be hosting a reverse parade. Rather than watching floats go by, residents can drive by static floats drive-thru style. For more information, visit: facebook.com/FortSaskDBC/
