The Future of Indoor Recreation

Your Voice Matters

Fort Saskatchewan is an active community! Our recreation facilities are full of participants from hockey, swimming, figure skating, fitness programs, personal training, community groups, as well as many individuals enjoying a leisure activity. There’s something for everyone…or is there?

A new study underway by the City of Fort Saskatchewan is asking some questions about how the facilities are currently used, and how they are meeting the needs of our organized sports and community groups as well as individual users. So far, the response to the survey has been excellent.

Take the survey using your unique Access Code from a postcard that was mailed out January 9th.

Share your thoughts about the future of indoor recreation facilities before January 31, 2023 to be entered to win a $250 grocery gift card!

Not a recreation user? Your response is still important

Learning from those who are not using recreation facilities helps inform planning for the future of recreation in Fort Saskatchewan. Current facilities like the Dow Centennial Centre or Harbour Pool could be modified or adjusted for other activities if interests and demands are changing. Think back to when ice rinks were converted in summer for lacrosse or inline hockey or more recently, pickleball. If you have a recreation or leisure activity that is currently not available in Fort Saskatchewan, the City wants to hear from you as well.

Current Programs and Services

The City is also curious to learn how residents find out about what is available at recreation facilities. There are a few questions on the survey related to preferences for staying informed about registered or drop-in programs. If you are curious about what programs are available, you can check out the Leisure Guide. If you see something you would like to try, you can register online through GoLeisure.

Meeting and Function Spaces

City recreation facilities like the Dow Centennial Centre and Harbour Pool are multi purpose and have rooms available for meetings, workshops, banquets and parties. You can book a space or call to speak with a booking specialist at 780-992-6266 or email

Final Results

The results of the survey will be posted in Spring 2023 with a final report going to Council in June. The survey is one component of a larger planning study for the future of recreation facilities in Fort Saskatchewan. The horizon of the study is 10 to 15 years and will inform Council on what steps are recommended to keep current facilities up and running and what the timing of any while considering timing for any new facilities to serve the growing community.
