Family Day

Join us February 11 to 15, 2021 for some Family Day fun by participating in a number of safe outdoor activities!

Snowman Building Contest

Show off your best snowman building skills in this city wide challenge. Build a snowman in your front/back yard, local park, or at one of these public parks. When complete, snap a photo of your snowman and upload it to Facebook with the hashtag #FamilyDayFortSask or submit to Please make your Facebook post public for the snowman contest so we don't miss it!

Contest runs February 11 to 15, 2021.

Participants can pick up a snowman building kit* that includes items such as buttons, pipe cleaners, a carrot, googly eyes, popsicle sticks and scarves to help decorate their snowman at the following locations:

  • City Hall – Thursday, February 11 and Friday, February 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • West River’s Edge – Monday, February 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

*Limit of 50 kits available on a first come first serve basis

Participants are not limited to using just the items listed above. Get creative and use items found in nature or inside your home! Use sticks, rocks, pine cones, food coloring, play dough, mittens, etc.

Prizes will be offered to the top 10 most creatively built snowmen.

Scavenger Hunt

Can you find all five (5) secret locations? West River’s Edge will have five (5) large, colored ice blocks scattered around for participants to locate. Each colored ice block will have a corresponding number carved into them that has to be matched with your photo passport.

Scavenger Hunt runs February 11 to 15, 2021.

There are three ways to attain your photo passport for the scavenger hunt:

  1. Download the Scavenger Hunt Photo Passport!
  2. Pick-up printed copy from City Hall on Thursday, February 11 and Friday February 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  3. Pick-up printed copy from West River’s Edge on Monday, February 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Once your photo passport is complete, either submit via email to or hand it in to the staff member who will be at West River’s Edge on Monday, February 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Prizes will be offered to select winners.

Skating and Music

We encourage the public to bring their skates and take advantage of the West River’s Edge Skating Loop and Pond while listening to some pre-recording winter themed music.

Participants must follow the Alberta Public Health Measures for Outdoor sport and recreation activities. This includes:

  • Outdoor group physical activity must be limited to 10 people or fewer.
    • Keeping the activity to members of the same household is strongly recommended.
    • Members of different households must maintain 2 metre distancing at all times.
  • More than 10 people may use an outdoor recreation amenity at the same time (for example, public access to a local rink) as long as physical distancing is maintained between households.
