City Events

Volunteers play a significant role in the success of our City events and they simply cannot happen without them. Join us in creating memorable experiences by volunteering in our great community. City Programs

Whipper Snippers and Snow Angels program are a great way to help those who have difficulty in maintaining their yards and clearing snow. This is a fun opportunity for volunteers of all ages to enjoy the outdoors and improve the quality of life of another in need.

Fort Heritage Precinct

Through the collection, research, preservation and interpretation of local history, we create an environment of inspiration for our regional community to discover the development of Fort Saskatchewan and surrounding areas and its relevance to Western Canadian and Canadian history. This means we have opportunities for you to be a part of our team!

Shell Theatre and Art Gallery

Volunteers are a key part of our cultural family here at Shell Theatre. Our volunteers put in countless hours of time helping to ensure every show goes off without a hitch. We welcome volunteers of all ages and experience to join our team. All Front-of-House volunteers for the Shell Theatre alternate between the following positions:

  • Ticket Taker: Ticket takers scan or collect tickets as people enter a performance into the Shell Theatre
  • Usher: Ushers will be knowledgeable of the Shell Theatre seating and will assist patrons to their seats. They may also handout programs and seat latecomers.
  • Lift Operator: Volunteers may assist patrons with mobility issues up and down in the lift
  • Access Control: At times the entrances and exits into the Sherritt Cultural Pavilion or backstage area will be monitored by Access Control.

Youth Volunteer Opportunities

Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is open to all youth ages 13 – 18 and will focus on:

  • Volunteering and fundraising
  • Project orientated activities
  • Youth Wellness
  • Youth driven Initiatives 

Goals:

  1. Engage youth to be involved in the community through volunteering
  2. Plan youth specific events and activities
  3. Collaborate with other groups and agencies
  4. Promote and create initiatives to support the well-being of youth

Location: TBD
Hours: Every Second Tuesday from 4:00 – 5:00pm
Dates: September – June

Youth Council

The Fort Saskatchewan Youth Council is a Committee established by City Council. Its mission is to educate and empower youth to provide information and recommendations to Council in relation to issues that impact or involve youth in Fort Saskatchewan.

Membership

  • Up to 14 youth members between the ages of 14 and 24, all residents of the City of Fort Saskatchewan
  • An appointed representative from City Council
  • The Youth and Family Coordinator

Responsibilities

The Youth Council is responsible for:

  • Researching and writing policy proposals for Council’s consideration and review;
  • Consulting with Administration and other youth serving agencies to support youth initiatives;
  • Providing a youth lens to City policies, programs and services as part of the City’s Diversity & Inclusion Policy (GEN-007-C);
  • Working with Administration to develop and maintain a community dialogue about matters important to youth in Fort Saskatchewan;
  • Driving change, and advocating on behalf of youth; and
  • Establishing partnerships with individuals and youth serving organizations to ensure different perspectives are reflected in Youth Council initiatives and procedures.
