Police Clerk – Emergency Dispatcher - Two (2) Casual Positions

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is currently seeking qualified individuals for the position of Police Clerk – RCMP Police Dispatcher within the Fort Saskatchewan R.C.M.P. Detachment. This position provides immediate assistance to emergency and non-emergency situations to RCMP members, the general public, and internal and external agencies. Duties will include gathering and recording information, dispatching emergency personnel, answering telephones, front counter customer service, update databases, providing general information and directions, and assisting with workload overflow as required by other sections.

Candidates will have Grade 12 education with specialized training in Police and/or Justice Procedures or Functions. Preference will be given to candidates with minimum five years office experience, and familiarity with dispatching of emergency services and police program systems. The Police Clerk will demonstrate effective public relation skills, and have a high stress tolerance with the ability to assess emergency situations and proceed accordingly. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial to relate appropriately and professionally with internal and external customers. Only candidates who are inclined to work in a fast paced, demanding environment when required responses are extremely time sensitive and critical in nature need apply.

The successful candidate will be appointed by the province as a Community Peace Officer Level 2 for the purpose of serving legal documents and will be expected to pass an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Clearance from the RCMP.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement.

Rate of Pay: $32.19 - $35.37 per hour

Hours of Work: Shifts vary between the hours of 08:00 a.m. and 02:00 a.m., including weekends and holidays.

Health & Safety Technician - Temporary Full-Time
COMP #201929

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking a detail oriented, proactive, and customer service focused professional to join our People Services Team. Reporting to the Director of People Services, the Health and Safety Technician is a proactive department team member responsible for completion of special projects to enhance the City Health and Safety Management System. This position will assist the Health and Safety Advisor with health and safety related initiatives and activities; review vendor pre-qualification submissions for completeness and accuracy; review and update safety management system documentation; collect information for safety statistics analysis; and facilitate the implementation and administration of Health and Safety policies, procedures and systems.

The Health and Safety Technician will maintain up to date knowledge of, and adherence to, all applicable legislation, standards and guidelines; will maintain knowledge of current Health and Safety strategies, trends and technologies by developing industry working relationships and participating in exchange groups, associations and committees. This person will set a positive example for health and safety by acting as a role model to other City employees.

This position requires the completion of, or be enrolled in, a safety designation program from the Alberta Municipalities Health and Safety Association or the Alberta Construction Safety Association. Post-secondary education from a technical school or university would be an asset. Experience in a Municipal setting is desired. The Health and Safety Technician must always be up to date with respect to OH&S Act regulation and code, and have knowledge of PIR/COR program requirements in Alberta. The successful candidate will be proficient in MS Office 2013 with emphasis on Excel, and have a strong attention to detail. Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills are essential to this position to help maintain a respectful and positive interaction with both external and internal stakeholders.

This is a temporary position with a tentative end date of April 30, 2020.

The City of Fort Saskatchewan offers a salary range of $64,233 to $75,543 per annum.

Labourer I – Primary Shrub Bed Maintenance - Four (4) Temporary Full-Time Positions
COMP #201909

Reporting to the Foreman, Park Services, the Labourer I position performs a wide variety of work functions within the Parks Business Unit under the Public Works Department. The position uses safe work practices and procedures to carry out assigned tasks and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the work team.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Empty garbage receptacles year round from all parks, City Facilities and open spaces.
  • Operation of light and medium duty equipment in a safe and efficient manner used in the maintenance of shrub beds, parks, trails, sidewalks and open spaces.
  • Ensure that all rules and regulations pertaining to parks and facilities are adhered to.
  • Maintain positive public relations and provide assistance and information services to user groups and public.
  • Maintenance of shrub beds throughout the City.

Candidates will have a Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and a minimum high school diploma or equivalent. The Labourer I will have some related experience working in the area of municipal operations and the operation landscaping equipment and knowledge of shrub types. Previous experience in the operation and servicing of grounds maintenance equipment and light duty vehicles is essential. Good organizational and excellent customer service skills, with the ability to work independently and adapt to emerging situations and changing priorities are necessary. The successful candidate will have a mature, responsible attitude with the ability to follow ground maintenance schedules. This is a physically demanding position; incumbents will be required to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions. This position requires your commitment for the duration of the season. A drivers abstract will be required at time of interview.

Rate of Pay: $19.41 - $21.35 per hour

Aquafitness Instructor – Casual

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking an enthusiastic individual who possesses exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills to serve our patrons at Harbour Pool. The Aquafitness Instructor is responsible for instructing classes of various age groups in aquatic aerobics, ensuring participants’ goals are met safely while building confidence.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Planning aquatic workouts, adapting to the participants’ needs and limitations.
  • Instructing aquasize classes, ensuring the proper instruction of techniques, basic stances, and movements while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Ensuring rules, regulations and safety precautions are adhered to.
  • Monitoring the progress of participants.
  • Keeping up-to-date on new techniques.
  • Attending annual in-services training.

Applicants are required to have an Aquafitness Instructor Certification in AFLCA, CALA, or WaterArt. A copy of all current awards must accompany applications. The ability to communicate constructively in a positive, confident and respectful manner is essential. Successful candidates must be available to teach varying day, evening and weekend classes which are one (1) hour in length.

  • Lifeguard, Instruct, and perform maintenance tasks as required
  • Prevent injuries by providing public education, enforcing safety rules and regulations, and responding appropriately in the event of an emergency
  • Ensure that aquatics center is clean and safe by completing required maintenance tasks
  • Maintain a positive work attitude, creating a professional and positive image when dealing with the public
  • Ability to organize, set priorities and complete multiple tasks, while being adaptable to last minute changes
  • Provide exceptional customer service to team and patrons
  • Attend mandatory training sessions throughout the year

Must have reliable transportation

The successful candidate must be available to work varying morning, mid-day, evening and weekend shifts. Preference will be given to candidates with two or more years of Instructor/Guard experience.
