Labourer I - Parks
Two (2) Temporary Full-Time Positions

Reporting to the Parks Services Foreman, the Labourer I will be required to work under close supervision to perform a variety of grounds maintenance duties ranging from turf grass maintenance, line trimming, planting and caring of annual flower and shrub beds, litter and weed control, pruning of trees and shrubs, watering of plant material, and minor repairs to parks amenities.

The successful candidates will have a Class 5 Operator’s License and should possess previous experience in the operation and servicing of grounds maintenance equipment and light duty vehicles. Good organizational and excellent customer service skills, with the ability to adapt to emerging situations and changing priorities are essential. This is a physically demanding position; incumbents will be required to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions. This position requires your commitment for the duration of the season. A drivers abstract will be required at the time of interview.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement.

Rate of Pay: $19.41 - $21.35 per hour

Hours of Work: 10 hours per day / 40 hours per week (Monday to Thursday / Tuesday to Friday)

Fort Heritage Precinct Historical Interpreter (Program Assistant) - Temporary Part-Time Summer
COMP #201919

Reporting to the Fort Heritage Precinct Programs Coordinator, the Fort Heritage Precinct Historical Interpreter is responsible for interpreting the history of Fort Saskatchewan and district to all Precinct visitors. General duties include: Delivering and maintaining curricular and public programs, conducting historical research, assisting in the development of new programs, providing guided interpretive tours of the Precinct site, providing costumed heritage/historical interpretation for programs and special events, providing visitor information services, conducting gift shop sales and other duties as required. This position will also provide support to the Fort Heritage Precinct Programs Coordinator and the Curator as required.

Applicants are required to be enrolled in a post-secondary program. A background in Canadian History, Heritage Interpretation, Museum Programming, Education, or a related discipline is considered an asset. Experience working with children, seniors, and individuals with special needs is an asset. Ideal candidates will be dynamic and outgoing with an interest in local history. Candidates will possess exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills and have a professional and positive work attitude. Strong organization and communications skills and the ability to work independently, as well as, in a fast paced team environment are essential. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Word and Excel, Google Drive, and First Aid certification are all assets. This position requires your commitment for the duration of the season.

Rate of Pay: $19.38 - $21.31 per hour

Instructor Guard - Harbour Pool - Permanent Part-Time

Reporting to the Aquatics Program Coordinator, the Instructor/Guard, is a dynamic individual who possess’ enthusiasm and experience to ensure the ongoing safety of our patrons, and to provide professional instruction in a variety of aquatic activities at Harbour Pool.

Qualifications, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain minimum qualifications (Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Standard First Aid/AEC, and N.L.)--a copy of all current awards must accompany application
  • Lifeguard, Instruct, and perform maintenance tasks as required
  • Prevent injuries by providing public education, enforcing safety rules and regulations, and responding appropriately in the event of an emergency
  • Ensure that aquatics center is clean and safe by completing required maintenance tasks
  • Maintain a positive work attitude, creating a professional and positive image when dealing with the public
  • Ability to organize, set priorities and complete multiple tasks, while being adaptable to last minute changes
  • Provide exceptional customer service to team and patrons
  • Attend mandatory training sessions throughout the year
  • Assist with various other duties as assigned
  • Must have reliable transportation

The successful candidate must be available to work varying morning, mid-day, evening and weekend shifts. Preference will be given to candidates with two or more years of Instructor/Guard experience.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required upon hire.

Rate of Pay: $23.10 - $25.39 per hour, additional qualifications may increase the salary range

Hours of Work: Minimum 15 hours per week.
