Revenue Services Coordinator - Permanent Full-Time

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking a detail orientated, positive and enthusiastic professional to join our Finance Team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Revenue Services Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership, guidance and support to a team of unionized accounting and clerical staff in the daily operations and activities associated with property taxes and utility billing; payment collection; cash balancing; and customer relations. This position requires the use of considerable independence, initiative and discretion within established guidelines, and must be able to perform the full range of customer billing and service duties, as required. This position supports the Chief Financial Officer by assisting with various projects including system testing, benchmark reporting and managing internal controls. The Revenue Services Coordinator will provide support in the daily processing of financial transactions and ensure efficient financial controls and procedures are in place.

This position requires an Accounting Diploma or an Accounting Degree, as well as, a minimum 4 years of related accounting experience with a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience. Experience in a municipal and/or union environment is an asset. The Revenue Services Coordinator will have proven leadership skills with the ability to engage, motivate and lead employees. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of accounting standards and processes, cash management, and reconciliations; and be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel with strong organization, prioritization and time management skills.

The City of Fort Saskatchewan offers a competitive compensation package with a salary range of $76,908 to $90,480 per annum.

Summer Program Leader - Six (6) Temporary Summer Positions
COMP #201918

Reporting to the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Summer Programs’ Leaders are employed by the City of Fort Saskatchewan for approximately nine weeks, the last week of June until late August. Each Leader is responsible for the day-to-day planning and implementing of a safe, fun-filled and educational summer-camp program for children ages preschool to Grade 6. If you are enthusiastic, motivated, thrive in a team environment and are looking for a rewarding position right here in your community then this may be the position for you!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Planning, developing and implementing appropriate and age related activities
  • Supervision and working with assigned Leaders in Training (LIT), assist them to develop skills, and plan portions of the activities related to the children
  • Be actively involved in programs and participate in planned activities
  • Communicating with parents and supervisors on a daily basis
  • Planning for supplies and equipment
  • Ensure program safety for the participants, volunteers and other camp staff
  • Ensure facilities are kept clean, secure and safe for program participants, volunteers and other camp staff
  • Maintain accurate records as required by the supervisor (ie first aid incidents, accident reports, etc)
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and complete mid and final performance evaluations
  • Adhere to applicable responsibilities as outlined in the City of Fort Saskatchewan Health and Safety policy
  • Assist in training, development and feedback for the LIT (Leaders in Training) participants

The successful candidates will be creative with a mature, responsible attitude, and must have strong organizational and exceptional interpersonal skills. The ability to listen and communicate constructively with children, parents and coworkers in a positive and respectful manner is essential. Candidates must have previous experience working with children of all ages. Ability to work efficiently with other team members with limited on site supervision is required. Applicants are required to be enrolled in a post-secondary education program in recreation, education or other related field and must be returning to full time studies in September 2018. Applicants will possess a valid First Aid certification. Your commitment will be required for the entire duration of the season.

Rate of Pay: $19.38 - $ 21.31 per hour

Operator III – Arborist - Permanent Full-Time
COMP #201934

Reporting to the Foreman, Park Services, the Operator III- Arborist performs a wide variety of work functions within Parks Services under the Public Works Department. The position uses safe work practices and procedures to carry out assigned tasks and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the work team.

Some of the specific responsibilities of this position include:

  • Urban Forestry program maintenance and operations. This includes tree pruning operations (ground, aerial and climbing), tree planting, hazardous tree removal, and response to storm damage using equipment such as aerial lifts, wood chippers, chainsaws and pole saws.
  • Assist Foreman with planning and taking a lead position in the Arboriculture program. This includes coordination of First calls for tree plantings, selection of species, ensuring HisTree program is updated and maintained, perform tracking and record keeping for maintaining overall City pruning schedules.
  • Operation of light, medium and heavy duty equipment in a safe and efficient manner used in the maintenance of trees and shrubs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair duties on parks amenities and equipment.
  • Cemetery interments, including the opening and closing of graves, cremations and the columbarium. As well, assist with marking of graves prior to excavations. An understanding of Cemetery By-laws is required.
  • May perform as a Lead Hand and Acting Foreman for Park Services in the Foreman’s absence.
  • Assist with other Park Services duties, functions and programs when required.

Candidates are required to have a Class 3 Alberta Driver’s license (air brake endorsement) and minimum five (5) years’ experience in arboriculture and in the operation of light to heavy equipment with the Parks Arboriculture field. ISA Arborist Certification is required. General knowledge of industry practices used in areas of Arboriculture, Horticulture, and Integrated Rest Management is required. Knowledge of snow removal operations and performing of Cemetery tasks are an asset.

Incumbents will also be required to understand the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the City Safety Policies & Procedures as they pertain to this position, and possess standard First Aid and WHIMS certification. The successful candidate will have excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing. This is a physically demanding position and incumbents will be required to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions.

Rate of Pay: $31.04 - $34.10 per hour

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Evening and weekend work is common and frequent.

Operator I - Utilities - Temporary Full-Time

Reporting to the Foreman, Utilities Services, the Operator I is responsible for performing a variety of tasks within Utilities Services in the Infrastructure & Planning Services Division. This position uses safe work practices and procedures to carry out assigned tasks and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the work team. This requires a self-motivated individual who can work well with little supervision, and who takes pride in their work.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Water Distribution Maintenance including CC exercising, line flushing, bypass inspections, bleeder valve maintenance

  • New meter installs

The successful candidate will have a minimum of Grade 12 Diploma and possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Level I AB Environment Certificate in Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection is an asset. Related water and sewer maintenance experience is preferred. Development Compliance Officer - Permanent Full-Time

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking a confident, enthusiastic, results orientated professional to join our Planning and Development Team. Reporting to the Manager, Development Planning, the Development Compliance Officer provides a lead role in compliance monitoring within the community and is authorized and dedicated to enforcing the Land Use Bylaw. The Development Compliance Officer engages a proactive and collaborative outreach style of enforcement; liaises with the residents and business in a respectful manner; and overall promotes the purpose and objectives of the Planning and Development department.

Some accountabilities of this position include: oversee Land Use Bylaw compliance within the community by conducting field inspections as required; provide active surveillance with a ‘field to finish approach’; respond to residents and businesses in a timely and meticulous manner; cite Violation Warnings and prepare enforcement related correspondence when necessary, including but not limited to, Stop Orders and Violation Tags; implement and maintain development compliance policies and procedures; assist with public education efforts and activities to promote proactive adherence to the Land Use Bylaw.

The successful candidate will have a diploma related to land use planning, bylaw enforcement or a related discipline, with a minimum of one year of applicable experience. Experience and extensive knowledge with the application of municipal bylaws is an asset. Strong verbal and nonverbal communication, conflict resolution and critical thinking skills are essential to be successful in this position. This position requires excellent organizational and time management skills.

This position requires a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License. A current five year driver’s abstract will be required at the time of interview.

Aquafitness Instructor – Casual

The Aquafitness Instructor is responsible for instructing classes of various age groups in aquatic aerobics, ensuring participants’ goals are met safely while building confidence.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Planning aquatic workouts, adapting to the participants’ needs and limitations.
  • Instructing aquasize classes, ensuring the proper instruction of techniques, basic stances, and movements while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Ensuring rules, regulations and safety precautions are adhered to.
  • Monitoring the progress of participants.
  • Keeping up-to-date on new techniques.
  • Attending annual in-services training.

Qualifications, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain minimum qualifications (Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Standard First Aid/AEC, and National Lifeguard) --a copy of all current awards must accompany application
  • Lifeguard, Instruct, and perform maintenance tasks as required
  • Prevent injuries by providing public education, enforcing safety rules and regulations, and responding appropriately in the event of an emergency
  • Ensure that aquatics center is clean and safe by completing required maintenance tasks
