Demolition

If you are planning to demolish a building or structure on your property, you'll need the right permits to make sure it is done safely in accordance with the safety codes act and the Land Use Bylaw. Whether you are removing a building or structure on its own, or planning to rebuild afterward, the City of Fort Saskatchewan is here to help.

Do I need a permit for demolition?

Demolishing any building or structure with a gross floor area of 10.0 m² or larger requires a Development Permit and a Building Permit. These permits can be applied for together or separately.

As part of your application, you will need to submit:

  • Application forms
  • Demolition site plans showing the location, dimensions, outline, and name of the building or structure being demolished. This can be based on a Real Property Report (RPR).
  • Estimated value of the building(s) or structure(s) being demolished

Applicants should review the applicable section of the Land Use Bylaw, which outlines regulations and requirements for demolition activity across all land use districts.

Fees

We price accessory building permits using the Fees & Charges Bylaw. The cost of your permit will depend on the size of the building.
