Available Positions
Election workers support various aspects of the election process. Below are the key roles available:
- Presiding Deputy Returning Officer
- Responsible for operation of a Voting Station, including set up and take down.
- Supervision of election workers at a designated voting station.
- Responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the ballots, supplies and equipment at a designated voting station.
- Direct scrutineers, official agents and Candidates on the proper procedures in the voting station.
- Provide assistance to electors.
- Registration Clerk
- Assist voters with the registration process.
- Greet electors and verify eligibility to vote.
- Assist in setting up and take down of the voting station.
- Maintaining the ballots, ballot box and voting compartment.
- Assist electors with completion of their Statement of Elector Eligibility.
- Monitor and update the online electors register portal as electors register.
- Greeter
- Greets electors and Direct electors to their polling station or registration desk.
- Informs electors to have Identification ready and answers enquiries.
- Provide any extra assistance to electors.
- Monitor the polling station line-ups following the close of voting station.
- Supply Clerk
- Provide, monitor and distribute election supplies throughout the voting opportunities.
- Maintaining the ballots, ballot box and voting compartment.
- Ballot Counter
- On election night, or the day(s) immediately following the election, as required: counts the ballots, completes the related forms and process communicates the results to the Returning Officer.
- Help with setting up and closing the counting stations.
Available Shifts
We offer flexible shifts to accommodate different schedules:
- Advanced Voting Shifts:
- October 14 (10:00 am – 3:00 pm)
- October 15 (10:00 am – 3:00 pm)
- October 16 (2:00 pm – 8:00 pm)
- October 17 (12:00 pm - 4:00 pm)
- October 18 (12:00 pm – 4:00 pm)
- Election Day Shifts: Monday, October 20
- 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
- 1:30 pm – Closing of Polls (Approximately 8:00 pm)
- 7:30 pm – Completion of the count (Approximately 1:00 am)
Eligibility Requirements
To work the municipal election, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old (unless applying for the Greeter role).
- Be a resident of Alberta and eligible to work in Canada.
- Are you a youth (16-18 years old) looking to get involved? You can still apply to work the election as a Greeter.
Persons Ineligible to Work:
- Candidates running in the election.
- Official agents and scrutineers of candidates.
- Individuals engaged in a role that creates a conflict of interest.
Required Qualifications
- Prior election experience is considered an asset for all positions.
- Must be available to attend the Mandatory Training Session(s).
- Strong Communication and comprehension skills.
- Strong attention to detail and mathematic skills.
- Customer service skills, including the ability to exercise impartiality.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks, follow directions and complete detailed forms and paperwork.
- Ability to work long hours and potential to stand/sit for extended periods.
Note: Some positions will be required to lift boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.
