Recreation & Parks Month
Celebrate Recreation and Parks Month this June by getting active, exploring local spaces, and connecting with your community. From June 1–30, Fort Saskatchewan offers a full calendar of free activities, drop-in fitness classes, family programs, and outdoor experiences designed for all ages and abilities.
Whether you’re discovering a new trail, joining a fitness class, or participating in a city-wide geocaching adventure, there are countless ways to enjoy the outdoors and stay active all month long.
Activity Highlights
Fort Saskatchewan is bustling with opportunities to explore and enjoy our natural and recreational amenities. Here’s how you can make the most of June:
City-Wide Geocaching Adventure
Take part in a month-long geocaching experience across 20 parks and trail locations throughout the city. Using GPS coordinates, search for hidden caches, discover new spaces, and enjoy a fun, self-guided outdoor treasure hunt.
Free Drop-In Fitness & Recreation
Stay active with a wide variety of free drop-in classes and activities at the Dow Centennial Centre (DCC), Harbour Pool, and outdoor locations, including:
- Tabata, Circuit, HIIT, and Pure Strength
- Yoga, Spin & More, and Silver Strong (for active agers)
- Aquasize (shallow and deep water)
- Drop-in sports like basketball, badminton, soccer, volleyball, and pickleball
Family Fun & Pop-Up Play
Enjoy casual, family-friendly recreation opportunities, including Pop-Up & Play sessions at Nature’s Playground and Kinder/Tot Time activities designed for young children and caregivers.
Legacy Park Family Festival
Don’t miss this special community event on June 6 (11:00 am – 4:00 pm), featuring family activities, and the return of the sheep parade at 1 pm.
Explore Parks, Trails, and Outdoor Spaces
Make time to visit some of Fort Saskatchewan’s most scenic parks and trail destinations, including:
- West River’s Edge, including the disc golf course, and river outlooks
- Strathcona Landing and river valley trails
- Heritage Trails Park and Jubilee Park
- Carscadden Park for sports and recreation
- Neighbourhood parks and storm ponds across the city
Plan Your Month
Activities take place throughout June at various locations across the city, with options for all ages and interests. Some programs require parental supervision or have age guidelines, so be sure to check details before attending.
Important Notes:
- Parental Supervision: Required for all Pop Up and Plays as well as Family Fitness classes.
- Spontaneous Gym Time: Children 7 years and younger must be accompanied by a responsible person 14 years of age or older.
- Fitness Classes Eligibility:
- General: Ages 15 years and older.
- 12 – 14 Year Olds: Must have completed the ONE & DONE fitness orientation to participate.
