City Breaks Ground on Aquatics Facility Project at the Dow Centennial Centre
The City of Fort Saskatchewan celebrated a major milestone yesterday with the official groundbreaking for the new Aquatics Facility Project at the Dow Centennial Centre. The event marks the start of construction on a facility designed to enhance aquatics and recreational opportunities for residents of all ages. The new facility will feature a variety of aquatics amenities, aquatics programs, and enhanced community spaces to support wellness and recreation for all ages.
Mayor Lisa Makin joined City Council, Dow, community partners, and project stakeholders to mark the occasion. Attendees participated in a ceremonial “shovels in the dirt” moment and a symbolic water-pouring using water from Harbour Pool, representing the transition from the existing facility to the new aquatics space.

“This project is a significant step forward in providing Fort Saskatchewan residents with modern, accessible, and inclusive recreational facilities,” said Mayor Makin. “We are excited to see this vision become a reality and look forward to welcoming the community to enjoy the new spaces in the years ahead. We are grateful for the generous support from our partners at Dow.”
Construction is expected to continue over the next 28 months, with the City committed to keeping the public informed throughout the process. Residents can visit the City’s website to learn more about the project, view concept renderings, and stay informed throughout construction.
