City Council approves 2027–2030 Strategic Plan

Fort Saskatchewan City Council has approved its 2027–2030 Strategic Plan, establishing the priorities that will guide municipal decision-making, budgeting, and service delivery over the next four years.

The plan reflects Council’s vision for a community that offers a great quality of life, connects people, fosters innovation, and supports a resilient economy. It will help the City balance current community needs with the opportunities and challenges that come with continued growth.

“Fort Saskatchewan has a strong foundation and a bright future,” said Mayor Lisa Makin. “This plan reflects Council’s shared priorities and our commitment to building a community that is safe, welcoming, financially responsible, and prepared for future growth. It will help us remain focused on what matters most to residents while allowing us to respond to changing circumstances.”

The Strategic Plan identifies four key goals:

Well-Planned Community and Resilient Economy: A community that grows thoughtfully and supports a diverse, resilient economy that enhances quality of life for current and future residents and businesses.
Welcoming and Active Community: A welcoming community where residents can fully participate in civic life by accessing high-quality recreation, culture, and arts opportunities.
Community Safety: A safe and resilient community supported by effective emergency services, clear policing direction, and strong preparedness to prevent, respond to, and recover from emergencies.
Financial and Operational Excellence: A well-governed and financially sustainable organization that strategically manages resources, assets, and partnerships to support long-term community priorities and service delivery.

These goals will provide direction for City Administration as it develops business plans, budgets, and programs. They will also help the City prioritize resources and measure progress toward results that matter to residents, businesses, and community partners.
