City of Fort Saskatchewan and Legion Branch 27 Honour Local Veterans with New Memorial Banners

The City of Fort Saskatchewan and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 27 have partnered to honour local Veterans through the installation of new Memorial Banners beginning on 101st Street and 94th Avenue (near the water tower) and turning on 93rd Avenue leading to the Legion.

A total of 14 banners featuring 28 local Veterans will be installed by the first week of November, ahead of Remembrance Day. Each banner highlights Veterans from Fort Saskatchewan who have served our country with dedication and pride. Members of the Fort Saskatchewan Legion worked together to make decisions, gather information and retrieve photos of the Veterans you will see on the banners.

This project means a great deal to our membership and to the veteran community as a whole,” said Todd Arsenault, President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 27. “Each banner represents a story of courage and dedication to service. Some of the stories are well known in our community, while others are new to residents of Fort Saskatchewan seeing the banners on display for the first time. We are honoured to work with the City to share these legacies and make this display possible.”

“These banners are a powerful way to connect our community with the people behind the stories of service,” said Jennifer Hoyer, Director of Family & Community Support Services for the City of Fort Saskatchewan. “They remind us that the freedoms we enjoy today were built on the dedication and sacrifice of those who served. This visual representation of remembrance asks the community to reflect on the lives of those that have served and continue to do so”.

The banners will remain in place throughout November as a visible reminder of the service and sacrifice of Canada’s Veterans.
