Join the Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department for a FREE family-friendly afternoon of fun, learning, and community spirit, sponsored by Heartland Mutual Aid.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme focuses on safe charging practices for lithium-ion batteries, the kind found in smartphones, laptops, e-bikes, power tools, toys, and more.

Learn how simple charging habits can help prevent fires and keep your family safe.

Explore Fire Safety in a Historic Home

What can a historic home teach us about fire safety today?

Join Fire Services and the Fort Heritage Precinct for The Modern Flammable Home Tour to kick off Fire Prevention Week.

Meet at the Warden’s House, then tour a home in the historic village. The City’s Fire Prevention Officer and museum staff will share how furnishings and fire safety practices have changed and answer your questions.

Programs For Kids This Fall

No School Day Programs

Looking for plans for your little ones? They can play games, make crafts, get active, and make new friends at the Dow Centennial Centre.

  • Half day: Ages 3½ to 5 at Auggie’s Place, 8:30 am - 12:00 pm. Children must be potty trained.
  • Full day: Ages 5 to 9, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.

Programs start October 2, with more dates in November and December. Pack a nut-free lunch, snacks, indoor shoes, and clothing for outdoor play. A waiver must be signed before or at drop-off.

POWER UP!

Girls ages 8 and older can try new sports, play games, and build confidence in a supportive setting. This weekly program runs Thursdays, October 8 - November 12, from 5:00 - 6:30 pm at the ATCO Gymnasium.

Experience Alberta Through Art

Explore Common Ground – The Breath Between, an exhibition by Edmonton artist Daniela Bahry featuring impressionistic paintings inspired by Alberta's landscapes. On display at the Alberta Lottery Fund Gallery until October 12. Meet the artist on October 2 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm during a free Artist Meet & Greet. Learn more at danielabahryartist.com.

History Meets Adventure: Mounties and Monsters

History becomes an adventure in Mounties and Monsters, a tabletop role-playing game for youth ages 12–19. 

Play as Mounties, fur traders or bootleggers in story-driven sessions set in different eras of Canadian history. Try one session or join them all during fall break. No experience is needed, and all supplies are provided.

Make Do and Mend

Give your clothes a longer life with practical mending skills. In this three-part series, you’ll learn traditional techniques for repairing and altering garments while helping reduce textile waste. Bring something you’d like to mend or practise on materials provided. No experience is needed, and you can register for the sessions that interest you.

  • Patching and Reinforcing: November 7, 1:00 – 3:00 pm
  • Zippers, Buttons, Hemming, and Alterations: November 14, 1:00 – 3:00 pm
  • Darning and Invisible Mending: November 21, 1:00 – 3:00 pm
