Council Approves 2025 Operating And Capital Budgets

During the regular council meeting on December 10, 2024, Fort Saskatchewan City Council approved the 2025 Operating and Capital Budgets. Council also passed the 2025 User Fees, Rates, and Charges Bylaw. Throughout the budget process, the City remains committed to providing high-quality services and strategically investing in community infrastructure while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

The approved 2025 Capital Budget is $13.6 million, focusing on critical infrastructure projects and community-enhancing facilities. Key initiatives include road and neighbourhood rehabilitation, design of the materials handling site, developing a bike skills park, and refurbishing the City’s iconic water tower. The budget also includes previously approved funding for the design of the new Aquatic Facility.

The 2025 Operating Budget, totalling $100.8 million in revenues and expenses, addresses growth and inflationary pressures, while supporting core services such as public safety and infrastructure maintenance. Investments include increased funding for RCMP contract costs and additional resources to address inflationary impacts.

“This year’s budget reflects the diligent effort Council and Administration put into carefully scrutinizing every cost to ensure we can continue delivering the high-quality services our residents expect,” says Gale Katchur, Mayor of Fort Saskatchewan. “We understand the pressures facing our community, and this budget strikes a balance between meeting today’s needs and building a sustainable future for Fort Saskatchewan.”

The revenue sources for the City’s Operating Budget include property taxes, utility rates, fines, user fees, grants, and investment income. Capital projects are primarily funded through capital reserves, external grants, and annual capital funding.
