Council Approves Property Tax Bylaw For 2026
City Council passed the 2026 Property Tax Bylaw at the May 12 regular Council meeting. The bylaw is based on the City’s approved 2026 operating budget of $110.7 million and a capital budget of $18.8 million.
With this approval, the sample residential property, assessed at $491,700, will see an estimated 7.17% increase in the municipal portion of property taxes or approximately $174 more per year compared to 2025.
When factoring in the Provincial Education Tax and the Heartland Housing Foundation requisitions, the overall property tax is estimated at 6.99%.
Individual property tax changes may vary depending on how a property’s assessed value compares to the city-wide average.
“City Council understands that any property tax increase can be challenging for residents and businesses. Council worked to balance minimizing the impact on taxpayers while continuing to support the services, programs, and infrastructure the community relies on,” said Mayor Lisa Makin. “The 2026 Property Tax Bylaw reflects Council’s commitment to responsible financial planning and maintaining a strong, sustainable community.”
Each residential and non-residential property will receive a tax notice based on its assessed property value. The property tax notices will be mailed to homeowners, business owners and industry starting the third week of May, and Property Taxes are due June 30, 2026. Residents can estimate their 2026 property taxes using the online Tax Calculator at fortsask.ca/TaxCalculator.
