The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department and IAFF Local 5277 have been nationally recognized for their outstanding fundraising efforts in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Together, the department and IAFF Local 5277 earned the award for achieving the largest year-over-year increase in funds raised among participating fire services across Canada. Two members will attend the Muscular Dystrophy Canada Conference and Awards Ceremony in Richmond, British Columbia, on May 24, 2025, to accept the honour.
“The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Fighters Association Local 5277 is incredibly proud to be recognized by Muscular Dystrophy Canada with the award for the largest increase in money raised from one year to the next,” said Andy Hansen, President of IAFF Local 5277. “This achievement really speaks to the heart of the community; its generosity, dedication, and willingness to step up for a great cause. Firefighters across Canada have had a strong and meaningful partnership with MD Canada for decades. Supporting families affected by neuromuscular disorders is something that's deeply important to us, and we're proud to carry on this tradition.”
Over the past year, the Fire Department and IAFF Local 5277 hosted several creative fundraising events, including a rooftop camp-out atop the Fort Saskatchewan Fire Hall in November 2024, which drew significant community support.
Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s mission is to support people affected by neuromuscular disorders and fund research toward finding cures. Firefighters across the country have been key partners in advancing this mission for over 70 years.
