Local artist selected for the 2025 Art in Public Places Program
Celebrating Local Artists
The City of Fort Saskatchewan is proud to announce the selection of the 2025 Art in Public Places Program's adult category winner.
"Art connects us to our past and enriches our community," said Mayor Gale Katchur. "We are delighted to showcase the talent of our local artists through this program."
The 2025 winning artwork is a fibre art piece titled Dr. Henry House, created by resident Ivy Trumpour. Through wet felting, Trumpour crafts backgrounds and uses needles with wool, fibers, threads, and embellishments to depict everyday scenes. Her subjects include buildings, street scenes, pets, birds, plants, and people, aiming to invoke memories or connections between the image and the viewer.
Dr. Henry Residence is a relocated historic resource. In 1991 the Fort Saskatchewan Historical Society moved the house from downtown to the Fort Heritage Precinct and restored it to the 1920s appearance. Dr. Henry was a prominent family physician in Fort Saskatchewan's early development. Trumpour's interest in history complements her artistic endeavors, appreciating the contributions of the city's past and present citizens and leaders.
The selected artwork was unveiled at the Alberta Lottery Fund Art Gallery on Thursday, March 27, 2025. The gallery is open weekly on Thursday and Friday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and during performances at the Shell Theatre.
The Art in Public Places program reflects Fort Saskatchewan’s commitment to arts and culture by acquiring and showcasing local artwork in public spaces. This initiative enhances community pride, fosters cultural appreciation, and leaves a lasting legacy for future generations. Dr. Henry House is the latest addition to the program, promoting well-being and community pride.
