Temporary Service Pause at Transfer & Eco Station for Refrigerant-Containing Items

As of November 12, 2024, the Transfer & Eco Station has paused accepting items containing refrigerants, including refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and similar appliances. Due to winter conditions, the facility cannot safely remove refrigerants, a hazardous material, during the colder months.

Residents needing immediate disposal are encouraged to use the Edmonton Waste Management Centre. For those able to wait, services will resume on April 14, 2025, when temperatures allow for the safe handling of these items.

“This temporary pause is due to colder temperatures, which prevent proper vaporization and recovery of refrigerants,” said Sophie Angoh, Supervisor of the City’s Waste Programs. “We encourage residents to contact Waste Services with any questions or concerns.”

Residents with questions can reach Waste Services at waste@fortsask.ca or by calling 780-992-6218.
