Say Farewell to the Sheep!

Sheep Leaving Parade

It’s that bittersweet time of year. Fort Saskatchewan’s beloved turf-trimming sheep are getting ready to head home for the season, and you’re invited to send them off!

Date: Monday, September 7
Location: Fort Heritage Precinct (10006 – 100 Avenue)

11:00 am: Arrive
11:15 am: Opening remarks and safety briefing
11:30 am: Parade begins
Noon - 1:00 pm: Feed the sheep carrots

Come for the parade or arrive around noon to feed the sheep. The City will provide enough carrots for everyone!

For a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, please follow directions from event staff and sheep handlers, stay behind the flock, and keep dogs leashed. The parade is rain or shine unless severe weather is imminent.

Movie Night at Legacy Park

Bring the whole family to Legacy Park for a free outdoor movie night featuring two baseball classics!

Date: Saturday, September 12
Time: 4:00 – 8:00 pm
Location: Legacy Park

Enjoy family activities throughout the evening, including inflatables, face painting, raffle prizes and photo opportunities.

Pack your snacks, grab your lawn chairs and arrive early to claim a great spot. This popular event draws nearly 1,000 attendees each year!

Fall Programs Start Next Week

Fall programs at the Dow Centennial Centre start next week, and there are still spots available!

If you’ve been meaning to sign up, now is a great time to find a program that fits your schedule.

Get moving with Mat Pilates, Beginner TRX, Spin and Fit Cross Fusion, or try one of our new running programs, Strong Start and Stride & Strength.

Preschoolers can explore Little Rollers, while families can enjoy Parents’ Night Off.

There are also programs for kids and youth, including Level Up Basketball, Power Up!, Go Sports! Volleyball, Babysitter’s Training, Home Alone and leadership courses.

Register for Bronze Star

Ready to build confidence in and around the water? Participants build water safety knowledge, learn CPR skills, and practice making safe decisions in and around the water. Bronze Star is excellent preparation for Bronze Medallion and helps develop confidence, responsibility, and teamwork.

Prerequisite: Suggested for ages 8 and older.

Register for Preschool Plunge & Play

Looking for a fun, active program for your preschooler? Join our once-a-week, unparented program designed to spark imagination and confidence. Each session blends physical creativity, art, stories, snacks and swimming. Every class includes at least 30 minutes in the pool.

Prerequisites: Children must be 3 years or older, fully toilet trained and able to dress themselves.

Classes start as early as September 8.

Twilight Tours: Fort Gaol Murders

Dates: Thursday to Saturday, October 8 - 10

Explore the history of the Fort and Provincial Gaol through true stories of murder, crime and punishment. This 90-minute experience brings Fort Saskatchewan’s “Hanging Town” legacy to life through gripping historical storytelling.

Knock Knock: A History of Contacting the Dead

Dates: Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24
Time: 7:00 pm

Step into the history of séances and spiritualism and discover how people have tried to contact the dead, from the 1800s to modern paranormal investigations. Hear fascinating stories and explore the history behind some of our enduring mysteries.

Recycling Round-Up Returns September 12

Safely dispose of household hazardous waste and electronics at Recycling Round-Up.

Bring items like aerosol cans, gasoline, cleaning solvents, paint, tires, household chemicals, and more to the Public Works Yard (11121‒88 Avenue) for safe, environmentally friendly disposal.

2027 Art in Public Places Program

Fort Saskatchewan artists are invited to submit their work for the 2027 Art in Public Places Program.

The annual program celebrates local talent and helps grow the City’s public art collection.

Quick facts:

Open to Fort Saskatchewan residents
Artwork must have been completed within the last three years
Adult and Student categories are available
A variety of media are welcome
A minimum 300 dpi photo and completed submission form are required

Deadline: 4:00 pm, Monday, January 11, 2027

Public Hearing Notice

Former Dr. Turner’s Lodge Redistricting (Bylaw C26-26)

The City of Fort Saskatchewan Council will hold a Public Hearing for a proposed amendment to Land Use Bylaw C23-20. This amendment would enable the development of the Apartment use and other supportive uses on the former Dr. Turner Lodge site at 9711 101 Street.

Proposal Details:

Create a new Direct Control district DC(A)-23 – Direct Control – 101 Street Multi-unit Residential.
The DC(A)-23 District will allow for an Apartment use integrated with limited supportive commercial uses.
Redistrict approximately 1.32 ha (3.26 acres) of land from PS – Public Service District to DC(A)-
23 –Direct Control – 101 Street Multi-unit Residential District.
