Start Your Aquatics Journey

Start your aquatics journey with the Aquatic Leaders in Training (AQ LIT) program.

Designed for youth ages 13 and up, this program builds real job skills, leadership experience, and confidence. Applicants must be at least 15 years old and have completed the prerequisite certifications to participate in the program. Gain volunteer hours, receive a letter of experience, and take your first step toward a rewarding career in aquatics.

How it works:

Step 1:

Complete Bronze Medallion, Intermediate First Aid & Bronze Cross

Step 2:

Apply for AQ LIT (ages 15+)

Step 3:

Complete 65 hours of experience

Step 4:

Complete a written application, cultural-fit interview, and in-water assessment

Step 5:

Receive a letter of experience

Step 6:

Five candidates are selected to receive sponsored National Lifeguard, Swim & Lifesaving Instructor, and SwimAbilities Instructor certifications*.

*Availability requirement

Candidates must be available for all required certification courses on the dates and times below:

  • National Lifeguard: November 12–15 | 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Swim & Lifesaving Instructor: December 4–13
    • Fridays: 5:00 – 9:00 pm
    • Saturdays/Sundays: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • SwimAbilities Instructor: December 18–19
    • Friday: 4:00 – 8:00 pm
    • Saturday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

If you are unable to attend these courses on the scheduled dates and times, you are not eligible to apply for the program.
