Celebrating 40 Years as a City

In 1985, Fort Saskatchewan officially became a city, and we’ve grown a lot since then. At the time, our population was just under 11,000. Today, more than 29,000 people call Fort Saskatchewan home.

Over the past four decades, we’ve expanded our parks and trails, built new neighbourhoods, added recreation and cultural facilities, and celebrated countless milestones together. From our roots as a historic trading fort to becoming a dynamic, family-friendly city, Fort Saskatchewan continues to honour its past while looking ahead to the future.

To mark the occasion, look for special 40th anniversary stickers, tattoos, patches, and pins at Canada Day events throughout the day.

Fireworks sponsored by Shell Canada

  • Start Time: 10:45 pm
  • Location: Rotary Amphitheatre in Peter R. Ream Park

We’re going bigger this year! Join us for an extra-special fireworks show celebrating Fort Saskatchewan’s 40th anniversary as a city. Expect a few surprises and a show that lights up the River Valley like never before.

Getting Around Town

Parking is limited behind the North Central Co-op. Public transit is FREE, will run all day, and is encouraged as the main mode of transportation. Find routes and Park & Ride options on the Canada Day Transit brochure.
