City Responsibilities for Animal Control
Fort Saskatchewan’s Municipal Enforcement handles bylaw-related complaints involving domestic pets (dogs, cats, rabbits, and enclosed pigeons) and wildlife affecting City property (e.g., beavers causing flooding).
What should I do if my cat or dog goes missing?
If your lost pet was found by Municipal Enforcement, and it was wearing a tag clearly displaying the owners phone number, an officer will call you as soon as possible to arrange for you to be reunited with your pet.
All lost pets which do not have a visible tag on them with owner information will be posted on the Fort Saskatchewan Animal Control Facebook page. If a pet remains unclaimed after 72 hours, Municipal Enforcement will transfer the care of the animal to a partnering shelter or rescue.
If your pet is not listed, and you have not been contacted, call the Municipal Enforcement at 780-997-7930, and your information will be collected, and efforts will be made to try and locate your missing pet.
Found a stray dog or cat?
Call Municipal Enforcement at 780-997-7930. Officers may not always be available to pick up animals immediately, so be prepared to care for the animal temporarily.
Barking dog complaints:
Try speaking with your neighbour first—they may not be aware of the issue. If it continues, call 780-997-7930 with the address. Keep a “bark log” noting dates, times, and duration to help officers follow up.
Wildlife under your deck (e.g., skunks, foxes):
Wildlife management is the property owner's responsibility. The City does not remove or relocate wildlife. Contact Alberta Fish and Wildlife at 780-427-3574 (Option 4) for assistance.
Nuisance birds or non-domestic rabbits:
Property owners should contact a local pest control company. Municipal Enforcement can provide guidance and lend pigeon traps. Trapped domestic pets must be turned over to the City. Check traps daily and handle animals humanely.
Firearms use:
Shooting pests or birds is prohibited under federal, provincial, and municipal laws.
