Family Violence Prevention Month 2025
Let’s Talk About the Elephant in the Room
November is Family Violence Prevention Month in Fort Saskatchewan. This initiative raises awareness about family violence, promotes healthy relationships, and connects individuals with local resources and support services. Learn how you can get involved, access help, and support a safer community for everyone.
During the month, we wear a small purple elephant to spark conversation and raise awareness. Like the traditional purple ribbon, the elephant symbolizes our commitment to ending family violence, but it also represents something more.
The elephant reminds us of the “elephant in the room”—the difficult, often hidden realities of abuse that many families face. By wearing it, we acknowledge the courage it takes to speak up, the importance of listening, and the power of community support.
Public Installation
Paper Mache Elephant
Dates: November 1 – Mid-November
Location: City Hall Art Nook
The installation will feature a Paper Mache Elephant, where the community can write messages of support and inspiration, to raise awareness about family violence.
Crocheted purple elephants fashioned into magnets, brooch pins, Christmas tree ornaments and keychains will be available for visitors to take. Let this little purple elephant be a gentle but bold statement: we see it, we name it, and we stand together to end it. In 2024, over 600 individuals help crochet purple elephants.
Thank you to the many individuals who crocheted elephants for our public installation, helping to raise awareness for Family Violence Prevention—your contributions make a powerful statement of support and solidarity.
