Municipal Cemetery

The City of Fort Saskatchewan's Municipal Cemetery is located at 11090 86 Avenue and is maintained by Public Works staff.

Inquiries regarding the Cemetery, lot purchases, pre-planning, or burial records can be made by contacting our office at 780-992-6248.

Public Works office staff will schedule appointments with customers wishing to purchase plots or niches, or schedule interments at the following times:

  • Monday-Friday, 8:30 - 11:00 am and 1:30 - 3:30 pm. Appointment dates and times are based on availability.
  • Appointments are not available on holidays.

The Fort Saskatchewan Cemetery is comprised of 11 different sections, which include:

  • Family 2
  • Family 3
  • Legion - Field of Honour
  • RCMP Section
  • Infant Section
  • Columbarium
  • Shrub Beds
  • Scattering Garden

The City of Fort Saskatchewan requires a Monument Compliance Permit be obtained prior to purchasing a monument to ensure it complies with all the Cemetery's Bylaw requirements. It also protects the purchaser from purchasing the wrong type of monument. Once the Permit has been approved, you may then proceed with ordering your monument. Monument Compliance Permits can be obtained by contacting our office at 780-992-6248.

Our staff understand that the death of a loved one is a very stressful time. In order to minimize some of that stress, a designated member of our staff will meet with you privately to answer any questions you may have on how to purchase or reserve a plot or niche.

Many people are now pre-planning and purchasing their cemetery lot(s) in advance. For pre-planning services, we ask that you contact our office at 780-992-6248 to schedule an appointment.

4 x 9 Plots

A 4 x 9 plot will accommodate:

  • Two full interments, one at 9 feet deep, and one at 6 feet deep;
  • Up to five cremations (14" x 14" augured excavation) at a 3' depth; or,
  • Up to two cremations (24" x 24" augured excavation) at a 3' depth.
  • Use of an urn vault will decrease the number of cremation burials allowable

To extend the life of the Cemetery, the City of Fort Saskatchewan allows multiple burials in a 4ft x 9ft.

4 x 4 Plots

A 4 x 4 plot (Infant as well as cremation plot) will accommodate:

  • Up to four cremations (14" x 14" augured excavation); or,
  • One cremation (24" augured excavation) at a 3' depth.
  • Use of an urn vault will decrease the number of cremation burials allowable.
  • Infants are interred at a six foot depth.

To extend the life of the Cemetery, the City of Fort Saskatchewan allows multiple burials in a 4ft x 4ft lot.

Columbarium Niches

The Columbarium Niches will accommodate up to two small urns.

Columbarium Niche Covers

The City has an agreement in place with an appointed service provider to complete all inscriptions on the Columbarium's Niche covers. 

  • Engraving on any niche doors in columbaria 2014 or older must have engraving completed by Value Monuments Ph: 780-474-2025 Email: h.johnson@remco-memorials.ca
  • Engraving on niche doors in columbaria 2015 and newer do not require an appointed service provider

A Monument Compliance Permit is required to ensure inscriptions are done in accordance with the Cemetery Bylaw.

A scattering can be a meaningful way a loved one can be returned to the earth and to nature. The City of Fort Saskatchewan has a dedicated garden space available if you wish to have their ashes scattered.
