Fort Saskatchewan Transit Accessibility

Fort Sask Transit is committed to providing accessible public transportation for riders with limited mobility. All transit buses are equipped with ramps and kneeling features to make boarding easier for wheelchair users, seniors, and others who may need assistance. Passengers can request the ramp by asking the driver.

When using our local service, a support person or companion can ride for free when assisting someone with a disability. Riders are responsible for ensuring that mobility devices are safely secured on the bus.

Service Dogs on Fort Sask Transit

Service dogs trained to assist individuals with visual, hearing, or other disabilities are welcome on Fort Sask Transit (FST) buses. No fare is required for the dog.

To ride FST, service dogs must:

  • Be trained by an ADI-accredited organization (Assistance Dogs International),

  • Be trained by a school that meets International Guide Dog Federation standards, or

  • Pass a test through an approved Alberta testing facility (as designated under the Alberta Service Dogs Act).

Service dogs must also:

  • Wear a service animal vest and appropriate harness

  • Carry Government of Alberta-issued Service Dog ID

Handlers must ensure the dog is well-controlled and does not block the aisle. When possible, please sit in the priority seating area to allow more space for the dog.

Only accredited service dogs are permitted. Support animals or emotional support pets are not allowed on FST vehicles or property unless fully confined in an approved pet carrier for the duration of the trip.

Accessible Transportation Services

The Fort Lions Transportation Society is a group of dedicated community volunteers who operate the Accessible Minivan Service in Fort Saskatchewan. The Society works to meet the transportation needs of local residents, offering subsidized transportation within Fort Saskatchewan and to Edmonton for medical appointments.

This service is designed for residents who use a wheelchair, scooter, or walker and are unable to use the existing subsidized taxi program due to a physical disability. It operates primarily within Fort Saskatchewan and is available to residents registered with FLTS.

For registration and more information, visit fortsasklions.com/fort-lions-transportation-society, call 780-940-5247, or email fortlionstransportation@gmail.com.
